CONTEMPORARY Grades 6-12
Contemporary dance is a popular form of dance which developed during the middle portion of the twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominating performance genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world, with particularly strong popularity in the U.S. and western Europe. Although originally informed by and borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has since come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance, but due to its popularity amongst trained dancers and some overlap in movement type, it is often perceived as being closely related to modern dance, ballet and other classical concert dance styles. We are excited to offer our older students this new and exciting dance form. Taught once a week for one hour.
Miss Delora: Tuesday 7:00-8:00 PM
TEEN TAP & JAZZ - Grades 5 -12
Accompanied by upbeat music, this class will begin with a warm-up before proceeding to the main body of work. Development of patterns of muscular coordination and awareness of the body's center will figure prominently as dancers learn to demonstrate basic positions and execute turns, jumps and leaps of jazz dance. Along with jazz, tap teaches an awareness of beat, timing and rhythm. Combining the technique of tap dancing with nostalgic to modern styles of music makes this class fun. Taught once a week for one hour
Miss Brooke & Miss Haylee: Thursday, 7:30 to 8:30 PM
CHEER BASICS & TUMBLING
Every little girl dreams of being a cheerleader and now is the chance to learn the basics. After a warm up students will learn to execute strong, sharp arm movements as they learn cheers and chants. Along with cheers they will work on jumps and formations used by cheerleaders as well as some simple tumbling skills. A demonstration will be presented in our spring recital. Taught once a week for one hour.
Miss Billie: Wednesday 4:00-5:00 PM
Being a member of the Kingdom of Callaway Dance Corps represents the highest level of commitment and responsibility and therefore offers the greatest rewards. Dancers 5th through 12th grades are accepted by audition only for these performing troupes at our Fulton studio. Talent is obviously a consideration when choosing these dancers, but equally important is the willingness of the dancer to work hard and put dance above all other extracurricular activities. Since being formed, the dance companies have represented Janet's Dance Studio astoundingly at area events, half-time shows, and competitions. Members have won many awards, including overall best routines, at various competitions in the St. Louis area, as well as performed on a Carnival Cruise ship, on different stages in Branson, MO, and in Florida at Walt Disney World.
Understanding the dynamics of the teamwork and sacrifice are key ingredients for being part of the dance teams at Janet's Dance Studio. The teams are by audition only and are divided into the following groups:
Miss Tori and Miss Delora:
Wednesday 6:00 to 7:30 PM - Jr. Kingdom Of Callaway Dance Corps
Wednesday 7:30 to 9:00 PM - Sr. Kingdom Of Callaway Dance Corps
